Cāṇḍālī: The Coiled Serpent of Inner Fire

English Translation

By pressing the upper air downward toward the navel,
the white air of the method aspect
swirls (Kuṇḍalī) below.

By drawing the lower air upward toward the navel,
the red air of the wisdom aspect
swirls (Kuṇḍalī) intensely above.

At the navel chakra,
the upper and lower airs—having the nature of the heat of fire—
coil like a reddish-white snake.

Between the navel and the secret chakra
is the true Cāṇḍālī—
shaped like the eye of an antelope (aiṇeya),
red in color, exceedingly fine and slightly curved.
It is hot and sharply pointed.
It blazes upward and enters the central channel (Avadhūtī).
It measures four finger-widths in length.
Its middle is thick, about the size of a grain,
and its tips are extremely fine—
as fine as a horse’s tail hair.

This is the self-arising Cāṇḍālī (Tummo).

སྟེང་རླུང་མནན་པའི་ཐབས་ཀྱི་རླུང།
ཁ་དོག་དཀར་པོ་མར་ལ་འཁྱིལ།
འོག་རླུང་ཡར་ལ་འཐེན་པ་ཡིས།
ཤེས་རབ་རླུང་ནི་དམར་པོ་རུ།
གྱེན་དུ་རབ་ཏུ་འཁྱིལ་བ་ཡིས།
ལྟེ་བ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་འཁོར་ལོ་རུ།
སྟེང་འོག་རླུང་གཉིས་མེ་དྲོད་ཅན།

དོན་དམ་གཏུམ་མོ་ཙན་དྷ་ལི།

དེ་ནི་རང་བྱུང་གཏུམ་མོ་ཡིན།
